Kilimanjaro’s Peaks and Passions!

Mount Kilimanjaro stands as the majestic rooftop of Africa, soaring to an impressive height of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). This legendary peak is the world’s largest free-standing volcanic rise, a tremendous example of the forces of nature. Kilimanjaro, often referred to as a stratovolcano, is comprised of three distinct cones – Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo, the tallest and the dormant volcanic formation, houses the mountain’s summit, known as Uhuru, Swahili for ‘freedom.’

While Mawenzi and Shira rest in eternal slumber, Kibo’s history hints at dormant power, with the last eruption dating back 360,000 years. Kilimanjaro is renowned for its iconic snow-capped peak, but the changing climate raises concerns that this icy crown may vanish in the next few decades.
